Please note, there
are different syntaxes in different countries, even when the same
MICR font is in use. This chapter will look at the basics, and indicate
the control character usage in the USA (for E-13B) and France (for
CMC-7). Going beyond the basics is best done with the aid and information
provided by a bank's MICR Printing Specification form.
It
is important to remember that the optical specifications for MICR
characters are for the printed characters, not the bitmap dimensions
of the electronic MICR font. Consequently each MICR laser printer
should use a custom MICR font that has been tailored to the magnifications
and imaging characteristics of that specific printer. There are
no universal electronic MICR font sets that will optimally work
in all MICR laser printers. Creating an optimized MICR font requires
tremendous amounts of research, development, and testing.
